Effective study tips for students during the Covid -19 Lockdown
Who could have imagined the whole world going on this universal holiday? Who saw it coming? No one. Life is full of uncertainties. Happenstances come. And when they come, they don’t give prior notice. As such, we have to always be ready to adapt to change by developing coping and adaptation skills/strategies. The whole world is facing a lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Virtually all that concerns human life and existence is in suspense. But the good news is when things are suspended, they are temporal. But what we don’t have an answer to is how long it will last.
A lockdown is a situation in which people are not allowed to move freely because of an emergency. In this case, the Coronavirus or Covid-19 is the reason behind the emergency. A lockdown can be a difficult and complex time as no one is used to isolation. if you ask me, it is not totally different from solitary confinement a technique used in the treatment of mental illness. Interestingly, goals can still be set and achieved. Students should still be productive and make the best use of this period and as such, studying should continue.
Lockdown is an unpleasant reality of life. Having all the free time is indeed very exciting initially but will eventually turn overwhelming. It is important to use this time wisely instead of wailing away. Time is one thing that once spent can never be earned back and something that cannot be earned back is not spent, it is rather invested.
School year will continue and examinations will be written no matter how long or short this pandemic lasts. There are some simple tips that you can follow to help you stay on track while studying at home during the lockdown as self-study has become the norm. Studying at home may be difficult to do during this period of uncertainty, but you can try your best to take care of matters that are in your control. Even though you cannot physically attend classes, it is important to remind yourself that there is work to be done.
-Morning Devotion: Beginning your day with a morning devotion births moments of inspiration and knowledge. It helps us grow and discover inspiration walk with God.
-Planning out your days can help you stay on top of things and go a long way in helping you get the results you want.
-Set routines and timetables: It is important to get into the habit and mindset of studying and working, so it is essential to set a timetable prioritizing your activities and organizing the tasks that you have to get done over the course of the day. Timetable structures our day as it helps set out times that you can work and take breaks. You can follow the school's timetable which you already have.
-Physical Appearance: Make sure you put on an outfit that you are comfortable in. Pyjamas is a no-no. Let your brain and body know that it is time to work. Shower and get dressed as though you were going to leave the house.
- Try to follow the school day. What this means is that you should be getting up with a view to start studying at 8:00 am. This will keep one focused and in the long run make us tired and fall into a healthy sleep pattern.
-Get rid of all distractions while studying. There should be no phones, video games, and devices. And the television set should be switched off.
-Online learning platforms. We need to first change our at-home activities so that we can get into the habit of taking online classes and learning applications. Online platforms give the advantage to learn at your own time and pace as lessons can be recorded or written.
- Create a proper learning space: There should be a proper desk and a space for learning activities or studies. Find a quiet place where you can focus on studies with minimal distraction.
- Exchange of knowledge: Students can have some form of interaction by having informative conversations with their family members in the house, discuss their learning with their teachers and friends over the phone.
